Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, "The LORD is my portion; therefore I will wait for him." Lamentations 3:22-24
I am currently doing my devotion time in the book of Lamentations. I try to memorize a different piece of Scripture every week to refresh me. This verse has blown me away, I found myself going back to it over and over. "Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail." Scripture has a way of reaching into the deep openings of a broken and weary heart. Wherever confusion and discouragement rests God's softly spoken words bring strength and healing. Jeremiah was consumed by his trials and frustration. Earlier in the book of Lamentations Jeremiah accused the Lord by saying, "You have made me dwell in darkness", "You have walled me in so I cannot escape; you have weighed me down with chains. Even when I call out or cry for help, you shut out my prayer." He says to the Lord, "Like a bear lying in wait, like a lion in hiding, you dragged me from the path and mangled me and left me without help." Just when you think his words can't get anymore extreme he writes, "You have pierced my heart with arrows...you have trampled me in the dust. I've been deprived of peace; I have forgotten what prosperity is. My splendor is gone and all that I had hoped for from you." However, Jeremiah stops on a dime turning the passage around. We see in all of this Jeremiah breaks free from his Pain by remembering what the Lord has done for him. "They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." The enemy wants you to doubt the goodness and the greatness of God. I don't want to make light of our hardship, but we must remember God offers us unlimited hope. We must remember the goodness of the Lord. Jeremiah feels far from God, but he chooses to focus and remember what God has done for him. Our Father's mercies are new every morning. We might have messed up, but God is faithful. I say to myself, "The LORD is my portion; therefore I will wait for him." We are capable of waiting no matter how long it takes. His love is faithful. Remember, those who have a great calling on their lives will go through great seasons of grief. There is a space and a place in the love of God for heartache. His goodness is wide enough to accommodate any circumstance that raises it head in your life. Hopefully this we bring peace to you this week as it has me this week. BECAUSE HE BLED "BUTLER"
